Is There Green Grass in Your Life?

Vibrancy is Back

We have security cameras at our TV station. These are the cameras that, in my windowless office, provide me a visual with the outside world. Today I discovered something relatively new: vibrancy.

It was specifically vibrancy from the color green.  In my office, there are colors of course, but I spend most of my time staring at a computer monitor- except today, out of the corner of my eye I saw green. Yes, the outside security camera revealed grass in a beautiful verde hue.

I’m writing this on April 8th. We’ve had quite a bit of rain the past 2 weeks. And while the temperatures are fluctuating and even snow threatens to fall here and there, the grass is undoubtedly brightening. What was, for so long, tan and brown, is once again green.

Did you catch those words? Once again. Yes, what was before has returned. A cold season is past. Vibrancy is back.

Peaks and Valleys

How does this pertain to your own personal lives? I believe our daily lives are a series of peaks and valleys. There are good moments, tough moments, and there are times where it seems we’re stuck at the bottom, in between two monumental situations, and we can’t see the other side, much less believe we can ever get there.

Kind of like how we sometimes feel in the middle of January when the sun isn’t shining as well, the grass is hidden from view, and cold biting winds make it difficult to show our faces outside our closed up homes.

Maybe you’ve experienced such a situation in your life. There were good times in the past, but from your current vantage point, you can’t see how its possibly going to get any better.

Perseverance

During the month of April, Andy Lynch, Mark Kunz, and I are focusing on the Biblical character trait of perseverance. In these valley moments, these humdrum moments, these tan and brown grassy moments when you’re longing to see green grass, I encourage you to hold on to Christ’s rope of perseverance.

Just as Joseph found himself locked in prison, our future situations can appear bleak– but God reminds us many times in scripture that we are not to lose hope!

James 1:12 Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.

Today, I pray you can focus on the vibrancy of the newness in spring, and be encouraged that if you are pushing through a bleak season in life, God can see the bright moments ahead and is simply asking you to put your hand into His, and allow him to continue to take you through the valley.

5 things we get by serving others

Jesus instructs us to lead through servant leadership. When we obey His commands there are things that we get out of it. Learn what those are in our free guide.
