Birds in the Dark

birds in the dark

I walked outside at 5:30am to go to an FCA Coaches Group in Columbus Grove. It was pitch black, but I heard something sweet. Birds were chirping. I couldn’t see them but I heard them and immediately my mind was filled with Jesus story from Matthew 6:25-27.

That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?

If the birds trust God, should we?

That’s a powerful passage about trusting in God and not worrying about future events. Maybe those words are what you need to hear today. But you know what was encouraging to me? It was the simple fact that chirping birds reminded me of Scripture.

I love how I can interact with the world around me and God’s Word, which is hidden in my heart (Psalm 119:11 – a verse my parents highlighted in one of my children’s Bibles growing up, and has slowly come to fruition), will come to mind when I need it. See the value of reading the Bible consistently and interacting with fellow Christians in Bible study?

Make those two things a priority in your life, and you will smile too, when you hear the birds chirping, in the dark, at 5:30 in the morning.
