I went to Minster Tuesday to talk with Coach Eric Belcher and a few of the Wildcat players about this week's game with Anna for our hgih school football Matchup of the Week.
He asked who I wanted to interview, and I told him "anyone." He told me he'd bring the captains over, like usual. One of the captains, Brad Sekas, is injured, and out until the St. Henry game, so he asked Coach Belcher if he should still be interviewed. Belcher replied "Of course, you're still a Captain on this football team".
What an example. While Sekas won't be able to contribute on the field this week, Coach Belcher made it clear, that he could make an impact by continuing to lead this football team. That's something that could stick with Sekas for the rest of his life. One simple statement. One encouragement from a coach.
I appreciated that, and so you'll see a soundbyte from Sekas in Thursday night's story. No matter how Minster finishes this year, its clear their 5-1 start is warranted, because of lessons like this that the coaching staff is teaching on a daily basis.
