High School Football, Week 3

I'll try and do this earlier in the week, but here's a first effort of thoughts on Week 3 High School football matchups. I won't predict winners because I don't like to do that for high school sports. All local teams are "our" teams and while we think one team "may" beat another, that doesn't mean we are rooting for certain teams to win. We never want you to think that so we obstain from predictions.

The Unbeatens:

Parkway at Marion Local. This is a fascinating matchup because both teams are playing with tremendous confidence thanks to the way they've played the last 12-17 games. The Flyers haven't lost since Week 3 of the 2006 season. Meantime, Josh Fisher is an incredible athlete that will be a difference maker every week.

Delphos St. John's at Minster. As we saw in our Matchup of the Week tonight, these two teams are fueled by their defenses. Great to see two teams with such tradition back on the winning track. It may be a "first team to 20" wins, scenario.

Ft. Recovery at Anna: Both these teams are pouring on the points. The Indians have scored an astounding 115 points in their first two weeks (both victories). The Rockets beat a very good Lehman Catholic team (possibly the best since their late 90's teams), and then trounced Waynesfield-Goshen. Both teams have a good shot at the D-6 Playoffs. So does Ft. Recovery. this one may not be over til midnight.

McComb at Pandora-Gilboa: I've enjoyed Kevan Westenbarger ever since talking with him for the 2006 McComb Football preview. He's a quiet kid with some much raw talent. But if he can be contained, McComb is beatable (as Leipsic almost found out last year). The Rockets haven't had much trouble with their first two week opponents. I'll have a close eye on this one.

We'll be at 19 games friday night including all 5 WBL affairs and all 5 WBL contests. See ya then.
