Andy Close Up.jpgSometimes in this job, I feel like I have a family that numbers in the thousands living all around me here in West Central Ohio.  Friday and Saturday last weekend happened to be two of those instances.  Watching Marion Local and Coldwater win state titles in football was like watching my own kids suceed (not that I know what that feels like yet).  Or one of my nephews (I do have a nephew).  Over the last three years, we've been able to establish some pretty cool connections with many of our surrounding communities. That's one of the things that makes our position at TV-44 unique. 
 
I don't have to be your typical, impartial journalist.  That doesn't mean I root for one area school over another.  It doesn't mean we root against certain schools or for others.  It's simply the fact that we are able to connect with athletes from some 70 schools in each and every sport they play.
 
This summer I had the pleasure of being the Emcee for the Flyers Football Lift-a-thon.  We knew at that point this was, physically, the strongest football team Marion has ever put on the field.  To see them go from that point, to a MAC Title and then run the table en route to a 2nd state title was special.  A few miles west, I had the chance to do the previews for Coldwater's game with Clinton-Massie.  The thing that stood out in my talk with Coach Reed was his genuineness.  He wanted us to know exactly how he was feeling about his team and about the chances they had in winning that week. 
 
I feel so privleged to be able to visit your school for a football game, a girls basketball contest, for a swim meet, or a wrestling match.  I love getting to know each fan, each coach, each athlete.  You have truly welcomed us into your homes every night at 10pm, and for that we are grateful.
 
And when your team takes home a State Championship, we think back to the Preview we did in August, and are proud that we were with you each step of the way.  Thanks for Including us on the journey.  That's what family does, right?
