I’ll be the first to admit I don’t understand everything about the sports of Bowling or Wrestling. We’re learning the terms and the intricacies of both sports, with each week that we cover them. But I must say I enjoy both because of the passion that both the athletes and the fans bring to the event.
In talking with Coldwater Boys Bowling Coach Rick Hartings, you can tell just how important the team is to him, and to the bowling community in Coldwater. It’s like that at many Bowling Centers around our area.
Each time I visit a wrestling meet, I get a chance to hear the passionate support of parents and coaches. I especially enjoy the tournament atmosphere of Regionals or States as the arena is packed and every second truly matters. So much emotion and discipline is displayed by the athletes in these crucial matches.
That’s why I look forward to my first play-by-play wrestling assignment tomorrow night at Spencerville. I’ll be leaning on Dan Allison for the technical aspects of the broadcast, but look forward to the passion and the intensity we’ll see as 28 wrestlers vie to be the best in their weight class, in all of Allen County. Even if you’re not a wrestling fan, I think it will be an entertaining night. Check it out for 5 minutes (we start at 10pm) and see if ya end up watching the whole thing.
