I call this Andy's Ramblings for a reason. Here's what's rambling through my head on a Monday as I sit in an Indianapolis suburb.
*The Ottawa-Glandorf students always find a way to surprise us with their creativity. Saturday at the Napoleon Swimming Invitational was no exception. As I entered the natatorium they made sure to say hi from the other side of the pool. Then during a 15-minute intermission, I went over and talked with a few Titans. The exchange went something like this:
O-G Swimmer: If I find a permanent marker, will you sign my forehead?
Me: Sure.
O-G Assistant Swim Coach: Actually, you can't have any body markings for this event.
O-G Swimmer: Man.
O-G Assistant Swim Coach: Well, if you get it approved by an official, it may be OK.
O-G Swimmer: Well that shouldn't be a problem, it's Andy Lynch.
O-G Assistant Swim Coach: No.
*As a kid, I always wanted to be able to put a pen behind my ear because it just seemed more convenient then carrying one in your pocket. Now I realize, all that means is I have big ears.
*Quality basketball coaches at all levels really make a high school program successful. My high school didn't have a very good JV coach and so we were average when we could have been at least above average, if not great. For instance, during one JV game, I was fouled which put us in the bonus. As I walked the length of the floor to shoot the front end of the 1-and-1, my coach was arguing about the call (because he thought they called me for the foul). Instead of worrying about my freethrow(s), I was telling my coach that the foul was on them. He didn't listen and kept arguing. The refs ejected him from the game and then he refused to leave, so we had to forfeit.
*The great thing about TV, is you don't need to check your spelling (aside from graphics). That said, I proofread this a few times, but apologize for any errors you may find.
